Weekend catchup

This weekend we crossed the bridge to the English countryside, to visit Dave's family and for a football match he was playing in on Sunday morning.  We set off just after lunch on Saturday, as Megan had dance in the morning and as soon as she was in the car, she wasted no time in getting her head stuck into a book!

It was a beautiful sunny day but we had a panic because as soon we crossed from Wales into England the sun ended and the sky was full of dark clouds! We kept looking back to see the sunny skies in the Welsh direction, but luckily by the time we got to Weston-super-Mare the sun had started to break through! We stopped here as it was not far from where we were headed and gave Megan a chance to have a run around and some fun on the pier.  It was our first beach day of 2013 and although it was cold it really felt as though the better weather is finally on it's way.  After an hour or so playing arcade games and some fresh sea air, we headed further inland to the countryside to Dave's brother and girlfriend's house.

Our Saturday evening and Sunday there involved of lots of amazing food, a Caribbean soup and pork dish on Saturday, and a beautiful lamb roast on Sunday, followed by sticky chocolate cake and home  made raspberry ice cream.  I really should have taken photos, but to be honest it was all so amazing that we all tucked in so quickly that there really wasn't any time to take them! We spent lots of time playing and walking the dogs (the new puppy is adorable) in the beautiful countryside and watching the guys play football.

The weekend once again seemed to fly by and we were heading home again to start another week.  There is so much to do in Somerset though, we can't wait to go back and explore some more!

Friday's Letters, St. David's Day and a Royal visit!

March 1st is St. David's Day, the patron Saint of Wales and we kinda do make a big deal out of it!

Supporting Wales at an international rugby match (our national sport).

Children celebrate in school by wearing traditional Welsh costumes or their Welsh rugby shirts and by taking part in mini Eisteddfods (a Welsh festival of literature, music, dance and performance. The National Eisteddfod which takes place annually in August, is one of the oldest cultural festivals in Europe).

Dear Cardiff, you are also busy preparing for St. David's Day celebrations. I love working in the centre of our Capital city. Walking passed the castle every morning and especially on days like today, with the parade going straight passed the museum, the sun shining on the beautiful buildings and flags flying proudly. I'm so glad that I moved home. We also have Royal visitors today, none only than the heir to the British throne, HRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall. Of course I'd be a tad more excited if it was William and Kate visiting but hey ho!

And now on with the rest of Friday's letters....

Dear Friday....Hello there!! I've been waiting ever so patiently for you to arrive. I will be exhausted by the time the evening gets here after working late and an exhibition launch and will be so glad to cuddle up with my beautiful baby and my man :)

Dear weekend....I am excited for you! Once Megan finishes dance tomorrow we will be packing up the car and heading to the English countryside to spend the weekend with Dave's brother and girlfriend. We'll be hitting up Weston-Super-Mare pier on the way for a walk by the sea and watching Dave and his brother play football on Sunday morning (must remember to pick up some thermals!). I'm looking forward to a weekend away with my loves so much.

We are staying close to here.

Dear Megan, good luck with reading your poem in your school Eisteddfod today. You've practised so hard and I know you will be fantastic!

Dear Roald Dahl (another Welsh great!), thank you for this quote. I am going to get it framed and put it up where I can see it every morning. It is something I am trying to live by at the moment.....

February's Favourite Things / This 'n' That

February flies by for everyone, but seriously where has it gone this year?

I can't believe that tomorrow is St. David's Day (patron Saint of Wales) and that it is time to link up with Ashley for Favourite Things already, and of course  Katie and Jena for This 'n' That.

1.

This Valentine's Day was the best ever. My man did good. Now I seem to remember in a certain post I said that I wasn't a big fan of V Day, but this year saw the first time ever that I got delivered flowers. This may sound lame but it was the sweetest thing :) We kinda spread it over the weekend aswell, went for dinner with Megan on the Friday, exchanged gifts on the weekend and I may well have been brought around to the idea a little more!

Bright make up - I have been buying and ordering some new make up and can't wait to experiment with some colour.  At the risk of being repetitive I need spring to arrive soon and need some colour!

That there are first signs that spring may be on it's way!  A long way to go yet but it must be coming surely??

I posted this Downton Abbey video last week, but it has made us giggle so much it had to be posted for favourite things!

Just a short one this month as I am catching up with a friend this morning to do some wardrobe swapping and have packing to do for our weekend in the English countryside :)

Popping some colour out there!

This grey weather sucks!! The sky is gloomy and I'm itching for some sun.

Today is my day off and I was meant to be meeting a girl friend for some lunch in one of my favourite coffee shop / wine bar / eateries in the village where I used to live.  Unfortunately, her Nanna passed away this past weekend and she has some family matters to attend to so I am staying at home.  I really should be getting on with some housework but after taking Megan to school in the biting wind and popping to my Mum's for a cup of tea and a freshly made bitter chocolate muffin, I am now lacking any motivation!

Instead I have opted for a self manicure / pedicure whilst cosied up by the fire with a cup of cherry and cinnamon tea. Yesterday I pinned some bright spring / summer outfits, which inspired some coloured nails that will hopefully give the sun a boot up the backside!! 

I'm not quite up to the standard of doing this unfortunately, so instead I opted for.....

(I do in fact have a thumb hiding away there somewhere and abnormally long toes!)

And now that this little indulgence time is over, I guess I should get to the ironing but what a shame it is now lunchtime so maybe later!
